Tennessee

The Southern Festival of Books is the Tennessee festival verified here. Humanities Tennessee, with Vanderbilt University named as presenter on the festival page, calls it a celebration of the written word and one of the country’s older literary festivals. The page says it is free, welcomes hundreds of authors and thousands of visitors to downtown Nashville each October, and includes performance stages, food trucks, and publishers and booksellers. For 2026 it points to the Bicentennial Mall, the Tennessee State Museum, and the Tennessee State Library and Archives, and it prints October 17, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and October 18, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Tennessee State Library and Archives is also the state library agency.

The festival page says the public book-submission window closed May 31, 2026, and that booth rentals for 2026 were at capacity, with a wait-list address of sfb1@humtn.org. Those are organizer facts about how the 2026 edition was filled. They are not an invitation to pay a stranger for a booth. The page also says gifts help keep the festival free. An Authors in the Round dinner is described as a fundraiser. This guide does not copy the session list. Past sessions are on the festival’s YouTube channel, the site says.

The venues named for 2026 are specific and public: Bicentennial Mall, the State Museum, and the State Library and Archives. A visitor can plan around downtown Nashville and still needs the Humanities Tennessee schedule for which building holds which talk. The festival is a program of Humanities Tennessee. The State Library building is both a festival venue in that sentence and the home of the state archives the rest of the year.

The State Library and Archives site, under the Secretary of State, posts grants, family-history programs, and America 250 resources. Those are archive and library services. Use them for research and use the Southern Festival page for the October weekend. No second Tennessee book festival was verified in this pass. This Tennessee note adds no crowd estimate, ticket price, or street address beyond the pages that were fetched. A local library in Tennessee may host extra talks, but only the programs named here were verified from official pages.
